Phuong graduated with LLB (Hons) from the National University of Singapore and was placed on the Dean’s List. Since joining Gateway, Phuong has assisted in a wide range of matters, including Corporate and Commercial, Intellectual Property (IP), Data Protection and Privacy, and Employment law, amongst others.
Phuong advises on contractual obligations and data protection issues, specifically compliance with the Singapore Personal Data Protection Act 2012. Phuong’s practice also includes advice on employment-related matters, including for example issues relating to employment passes, transfer of employees, and employees’ benefits under the Employment Act. Phuong has also assisted her clients in their venture into the Vietnamese market, capitalising on her Vietnamese language capability, as well as her knowledge of local laws and experience with the legal system in Vietnam obtained while with the Vietnamese Office of a renowned international law firm.
In terms of IP, Phuong currently manages a number of client portfolios. Phuong also has significant experience in patent searches and patent drafting, as well as in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications. Phuong is also experienced in the contentious side of the IP practice, having aided in opposition and invalidation proceedings before the Trade Marks Registry, and other IP-related disputes before the Singapore High Court and the Court of Appeal. In addition, Phuong has also advised her clients on the commercialisation of their IP, including franchising and licensing matters.
Phuong is fluent in English and Vietnamese, and is passionate about pro bono work. She believes in giving back to the society through lending a helping hand to people in need of legal support, but cannot afford the same.
