Sebastian Blasius

Registered Foreign Lawyer

Sebastian Blasius has been practicing law in Singapore since 2015. He is among the select few German lawyers registered to practise not only foreign law, but also Singapore law (under Sec. 36B Legal Profession Act 1966 and the rules made under this Act). His dual qualification particularly enables him to provide seamless legal counsel to companies with German roots and their Southeast Asian subsidiaries.

Throughout his career, Sebastian has advised organizations of all sizes and stages of development: from newly founded start-ups to established businesses, and from sole proprietorships to global corporations. He provides in-depth legal guidance on all key areas of Singapore business law, particularly on corporate, employment, and contract law as well as on general compliance matters.

Placing a special focus on data protection law, Sebastian is accredited by the International Association of Privacy Professionals as a “Certified Information Privacy Professional” for both Asia and Europe. He regularly serves as an external data protection officer for his clients.

Sebastian has a distinguished legal education with consistently excellent results. In addition to his German bar exams, he successfully passed the Singapore Foreign Practitioner Examinations. Sebastian continues to pursue his strong academic interest by regularly publishing analyses and assessments of current legal developments. In addition, he gives lectures, seminars, and training sessions on these topics.

At the Singaporean-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Mr. Blasius leads the HR Committee—a platform for HR managers to exchange information on legal regulations in Singapore and the surrounding countries. He also serves as the Singapore representative of the International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA), where he regularly organizes educational and networking events for lawyers across the ASEAN region.

Sebastian is fluent in both German and English and is currently working on improving his Spanish.

Before joining Gateway, Sebastian was a partner at one of the largest German law firms in Southeast Asia, where he led the data protection practice.
